Orange County Carpet Cleaning Tips

We all love the plush comfort and posh elegance that our Orange County carpets add to our home, but there is one drawback to carpeting we could all probably do without. We're talking about stubborn stains. All it takes is one slip of the hand to turn a pristine carpet into a Jackson Pollack painting. I think we can all agree that black coffee is not the best artistic medium, and that there are better canvases than our lovely carpets!

When nightmare stains happen, the most important thing is to react quickly and appropriately. When you have a red wine or coffee stain seeping into your beautiful pile, the last thing you need to do is waste time freaking out about it. After quick reaction, the second most important thing, is to treat the stain properly. If you start to clean a stain using bad techniques, you could make things so much worse.

Since cleaning stains is a huge part of our carpet cleaning work in Orange County, we thought we should put our knowledge to work, and offer our advice on how to clean up a couple of the more common, stubborn stains we run into while going about our work.

Blood Stains

Ahh, the dreaded blood stain. This is one of the most feared and hated stains that can happen to your carpet. Luckily, a lot of the hype about the stubbornness of blood stains is just that, hype. If you react quickly to the stain, and use the right techniques, you'll probably be alright.

First things first, only use cold water on blood stains. Hot water causes blood to coagulate. When blood thickens, it's a lot harder to clean up. Cold water will dilute it instead.

So, with that out of the way, here's what you do. Fill a spray bottle with cold water and 2 teaspoons of grease-cutting dish soap, like Dawn. Spritz the stain to loosen it, and gently blot the stain so that the blood transfers to the paper towel. Never scrub, only blot! It may take a few passes, but if you are patient, the stain should come up, and your carpet will look as good as new!

Coffee Stains

As bad as blood stains are, coffee stains can be worse. If left unattended, these brownish stains can end up looking like a neglected pet mess, sending a horrible message to any guests who happen to notice it. Much like blood, this stain really isn't as bad as it seems, if you jump right on it.

Make the same mixture of cold water and dish soap we recommended for the blood stain, but replace 1/4 cup of water with white vinegar. Start by gently blotting up the stain with paper towel. Be sure to change the paper towel when it becomes saturated to avoid spreading the stain. After that, you simply continue on using the same cleaning method as you would for blood. Spritzing and blotting until the stain is lifted. Again, patience is key. Keep trying until the stain is gone!
