Laminate Flooring Options

If you’re looking for a classy floor on a limited budget, then laminate flooring is the way to go. Here, then, is our list of some great laminate flooring options to consider:

Laminate flooring can look like hardwood, and Armstrong seems to make the best quality “hardwood-esque” floor planks. Aim to get a plank that is at least 8mm in thickness for that “genuine” hardwood look.

If scratch resistance & durability is your ultimate goal with getting a laminate floor that looks like wood, consider Shaw Flooring’s Luminiere Collection. In addition to being durable, Shaw products have what’s called “Loc’n’Place” technology, making installation a breeze.

Jatoba – or Brazilian cherry – wood is rare and expensive, and needless to say, its installation will leave a huge carbon footprint on the environment. However, there are quite a few options available from both Shaw and Armstrong that can mimic the Brazilian cherry look without compromising the planet…or your wallet!

Many “wood-like” laminate floors today even go so far as to have a wood grain built into it!

Another good thing about laminate flooring is that it can go over any subfloor – no special installation needed. Of course, it’s always wise to make sure that the subfloor is in good shape, free from cracks & moisture…this, of course, needs to be done by a professional.

When installing your floor, make sure that it comes with a warranty. In the case of commercial flooring, you’ll need at least a 15 year warranty. In the case of residential flooring, you can most likely get a lifetime warranty. Of course, there are limitations to every warranty, so be sure to read the fine print before committing to any laminate floor.
